OVERVIEW

What are cultural collisions and why do they occur? No matter the degree of intensity, collisions occur because of our assumptions about differences based on language, culture or physical appearance. Especially in climates of tension and mistrust, cultural collisions upset performance productivity, and in turn, reduce bottom-line profit. Thus, how to handle cultural collisions is a basic competency for managing diversity in an increasingly multicultural environment.

This workshop offers participants an opportunity to clarify and simplify complicated cultural interactions that occur in the workplace. Our approach is based on the claim that language doesn't just describe reality, language generates our reality.

This workshop provides participants with an opportunity to:

  • Learn new linguistic distinctions for understanding cultural collision

  • Observe how decisions, choices and actions are interpreted by those you impact and influence

  • Recognize moods that predispose the occurrence of cultural collisions

  • Practice designing conversations to handle cultural collisions.
